The Boulder Shelter for the Homeless

About

Street Fare Sponsors:

Street Fare is the Boulder Shelter's employment program.
The goal of this program is “to create employment for Shelter clients, inform the public about Shelter services and integrate Shelter clients into the greater community by operating a fiscally self-sustaining food service social venture”.  Street Fare employs Shelter clients to bake gourmet mini-cupcakes and sell them at the Farmers’ Markets throughout Boulder County.  Street Fare also caters special events and weddings.

Street Fare employs Shelter clients for whom typical employment is difficult or impossible to obtain.  This program offers clients a source of income and an avenue for reintegrating into the community in which they live.  The Street Fare booths at Boulder and Longmont Farmer’s Markets offer a unique venue for the general public to interact with Shelter clients and to learn more about the services offered at the Boulder Shelter.

Street Fare cupcakes are crafted in the Shelter’s commercial kitchen by Shelter clients working under the direction of Shelter kitchen staff.  They are made totally from scratch using proprietary recipes and quality ingredients. The cupcakes come in the creative flavors below with other, unique flavors available for catering orders.

Street Fare not only offers employment opportunities for Shelter clients, but also seeks to redefine the role of the homeless in the community. By keeping our sales on the street, we transform the streets from the environment that once held these men and women down into the platform from which they can grow. The community plays a crucial role in this transformation as its patronage represents a shift in public perception of the homeless. For the first time in their lives these men and women are welcomed into the community as they proudly sell the cupcakes they have made to fellow citizens.

100% of Street Fare's profit goes into funding Shelter programs and services.

"Our goal is to build a stronger community by collaborating with our clients and the public through the structure of a cupcake business. Through the magic and simplicity of our little cupcakery, we work side by side with clients in the Shelter's professional grade kitchen, cooking up delightful and surprising cupcake flavors."
